Welcome to 6th grade! I am excited to join the community at Thornton Middle School! I have worked in education for 24 years in a variety of roles. After receiving my bacehelor's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in English and Elementary Education, I taught for Westminster Public Schools at Shaw Heights Middle School for 5 years and for Adams 12 at Northglenn Middle School for six years. I taught sixth and seventh graders language arts, social studies, and reading, and I coached teachers on best teaching practices in literacy. During that time, I also earned my master's degree from University of Colorado in Boulder in literacy education, K-12, and I completed my principal lisencure from the University of Phoenix. I then became an assistant principal in Boulder Valley School District for 5 years and a principal for 3 years. I liked being a principal, but I needed to focus on my family so I stepped away from my full-time administrative career. For the past several years, I worked part-time in Boulder Valley Schools with students who are in the Gifted and Talented Program. I feel fortunate that I served in so many roles in education, and I am excited to get back to my first love, teaching!
When I am not working, I am taking care of my two kids, my husband, and my dog! I have a daughter who is entering Colorado State University in the fall and a son who will be a freshman in high school. They are both very actice in choir, band, and theater, and I spend a lot of my time watching them perform. They inherited their muscial genes from my husband who is in a band when he is not working his regular job in new home sales. My dog, Sugar, is a funny, protective little bischon--I like to share stories about her in the classroom--makes for great writing! I love to spend time with my family, and I also love to swim, dance, read, and garden. I am an avid Harry Potter fan, and I love all things Disney!
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime! My email is email@example.com. I try to answer emails within 24 hours, and I want to help all students and their families be successful at Thornton Middle School.
