Welcome to 8th grade social studies! This will be my third year at The International School at Thornton Middle and my 4th year overall teaching. US History is my favorite type of history, and I more than excited to share my love of this subject with my students. I earned my Bachelors of Arts Degree in political science with a minor in history and criminal justice from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I also earned my Master of Arts in Educational Policy from the University of Colorado and my Post-Bachelors in secondary social studies education. I strongly believe that social studies teaches students not only about the world and it’s history, but also on how to be good citizens. I am very passionate about teaching and working with students and seeing their growth. I am honored to be teaching at TIS!
In 8th grade we will be studying US history. Some main topics include: starting at the creation of the first colony in Virginia in 1607, to the Revolutionary War against Great Britain, the creation of country in 1776, the expansion of our country during the Westward Expansion starting in 1803, to finally the Civil War in the 1860's and the cause and effect of the war on the country and slavery.
