I serve our students, staff, and community in the capacity of our Digital Literacy Teacher Librarian. My primary responsiblity is to co-teach alongside our amazing Core and Core Plus educators to integrate 21st Century thinking, tools, and skills which engage students and enrich learning experiences. I support students and teachers in regards to information literacy, technology literacy, and digital citizenship. I also collaborate daily with Mrs. Bender, our Media Technician, to help oversee management of the Learning Commons space and resources.
Prior to becoming a Teacher Librarian/Digital Literacy Teacher, I taught first and second grades, both in the Adams 12 Five Star School District and in a neighboring district. The 2018-19 school year marks my twentieth year in teaching. I also taught at Riverdale Elementary School as the Teacher Librarian for four years before coming to The International School. I have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in literacy, as well as a Master's Degree in Information and Learning Technologies with an emphasis in school library and instructional leadership. An area of focus for me this school year is to build on the implementation of our "Design Space" at lunch times that we began a couple years back. The students LOVE time to tinker, create, and problem solve when they had the opportunity! Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband son,and our "fur baby" Gracie, cooking, walking, gardening, traveling, and reading, of course!
Regardless of my exact teaching position, I continue to be passionate about connecting with students--encouraging them to ask questions and seek answers. Making learning engaging, meaningful, and fun is something I strive for on a daily basis. The International School is amazing and I am excited to be part of our community! Stop in and see us in the Learning Commons anytime between 8:00-4:00.
